Helpful Information

Mental Illness, Alcoholism, Addiction

Each illicit drug has different effects on a person’s body, however the use of illicit drugs in all cases is illegal and extremely dangerous. There is no way of predicting the outcome of certain drugs by themselves, let alone in combination with other medications. Addiction is a disease that affects the mind and the body. Once a person begins to use a drug on a habitual basis, the possibility of becoming addicted increases. Marijuana is often referred to as the ‘gateway’ drug, meaning that it opens the door to other, harder drugs.

Most drug addicts do not start using drugs with the intention to have an uncontrollable addiction, however that is usually the path that drugs lead them down. Once a person is caught in the cycle of addiction it is very difficult to escape without the help of treatment or some other type of intervention. Addiction can ruin the addict’s life as well as hurt all those who the addict comes into contact with. Addiction coupled with mental illness and mental illness medications can be dangerous and even fatal.
