Our Program

The Dual Diagnosis Program focuses on the treatment of mental illness as well as drug addiction or alcoholism. People who have problems with psychiatric, mental and emotional disorder often used drugs or alcohol as coping mechanisms but then find that they have two untreated diseases that they are dealing with. Our facilities boast licensed specialists that are able to help by prescribing non-addictive medicines and provide aid through psychotherapy and other alternative modes of treatment.

Because each patient is different, our staff begins by interviewing each person to see what specific issues and problems need treatment. Once this initial beginning takes place the information is passed on to treatment specialists that will work as a team to deal with dual diagnosis patients. Dealing with dual diagnosis patients is difficult and must be done in a comprehensive manner to ensure the best possibility for success. Patients who suffer from mental illness and have gone through mainstream rehabilitation programs in the past often tell us they are frustrated and want have given up because their psychological needs have not been met.

The Dual Diagnosis Program is a track offered by Gulf Coast Recovery. In addition to the fully comprehensive substance abuse program, Dual Diagnosis offers weekly meetings with psychiatrists or psychologists as well as individual counseling specifically targeted to deal with emotional and mental disorders. Our program emphasizes a full change in attitude and lifestyle in order to take on recovery in real life. Gulf Coast specialists identify ways in which patients can learn to life sober on their own and deal with triggers and other problems that may occur in relation to their addictions and their other illnesses.
